A welcoming pub with a medieval barn on site

Great food & drink in the restaurant, and Meade Hall, our stunning 16th-century barn for carveries, live music, and celebrations. Overlooking Crown Taveners Cricket Club.

The Crown & Cushion has been part of the Barons group since 2013, and proudly boasts our beautiful Meade Hall venue. Built from the remains of two old barns, one a 16th-century barn from the Salisbury area transported in 1978, Meade Hall is a high-ceilinged medieval banqueting hall that hosts everything from Sunday carveries to weddings.

The pub itself is a warm, welcoming local. The garden overlooks Crown Taveners Cricket Club — grab a table on a summer Saturday and you’ve got the best seat in the house. Covered seating, pods, and bench tables with umbrellas mean you can eat outside across the seasons.

Sunday is a big day here. The pub serves roasts from noon till 5pm, and Meade Hall runs a full carvery (September through June, tables bookable 12:30–1:30pm). For your special event, Meade Hall seats up to 100 for dining (up to 200 using the outdoor spaces). It’s our versatile venue for weddings, big birthdays, parties and celebrations.

A bit of history

The pub dates from 1512 and was converted to an ale house in 1596. Meade Hall was built from the remains of two old barns, one a 16th-century barn from the Salisbury area — some timbers are said to have come from ships defeated in the Spanish Armada.
