Sunday Carvery at The Jovial Sailor
Sunday at The Jovial Sailor is one of the best days of the week. From noon until 5pm, we serve our carvery with multiple meats carved to order at our carvery, golden roast potatoes, homemade Yorkshire puddings, seasonal vegetables, and a counter of trimmings to help yourself to. Our usual à la carte menu is served all day on Sundays too, as is our Chestnut Roast with all the roast trimmings.
About a 20 minute walk from Ripley Green, the pub comes alive on Sundays. Families spread across the garden, dogs settle under tables in the bar, and the smell of roasting meat carries through the pub from late morning.
How our carvery works
A dedicated chef carves your choices fresh, to order. Every week, you can enjoy Roast Sirloin of Beef, Roast Turkey, Beef Brisket, and Roast Loin of Pork.
Help yourself to trimmings: crispy roast potatoes, fluffy homemade Yorkshire puddings, seasonal greens, honeyed root vegetables, sage and onion stuffing, cauliflower cheese, and our house gravy. It’s generous, it’s hearty, and it’s the reason our regulars keep their Sunday afternoons free.
Vegetarian and vegan roast options are always on offer – our Chestnut Roast, served with all the same trimmings. NGCI (non gluten-containing ingredient) options are available too; just let your server know.
When we serve and how to book
Our carvery runs every Sunday from noon to 5pm, with last orders at 4.45pm. Our full Main Menu is served all day on Sundays too.
Booking is recommended, especially for groups of four or more. Bank holiday weekends and the winter months are some of our most popular services of the year.
To book your table, call us on 01483 224 360. Walk-ins are always welcome subject to availability, and booking ahead means we can save you a table.
The garden, the huts, and the tent
The Jovial Sailor’s garden is one of the reasons people choose us for their Sunday. Garden huts provide sheltered seating for groups who want their own space. The tent area seats larger parties and is covered for when the weather turns. And our outdoor bar means you don’t have to go far for a refill.
There’s also a play area for children, so parents can relax over their roast while the little ones burn off energy. On warmer Sundays, the whole garden fills up – it’s the heart of the pub.
Dogs are welcome in the garden, bar, huts, Lounge, and Home Room. We keep water bowls filled and treats behind the bar.
Families and celebrations
Our children’s menu includes a smaller carvery plate, and the play area keeps them occupied between courses. Highchairs are available.
If you’re celebrating a birthday, christening, anniversary, or milestone, the carvery is a relaxed way to bring everyone together without anyone having to cook. We can arrange group seating in the restaurant or reserve one of the garden huts for a more private feel. For bigger celebrations, ask about the tent area — it works well for larger parties.
Just call ahead with your numbers and we’ll make sure everything is set up for you.
Ripley Green and the local area
Ripley is one of Surrey’s most picturesque villages, and the pub is not far from Ripley Green. A Sunday walk around the green followed by a carvery is a tradition for many of our regulars.
We’re also close to the Wey Navigation towpath and RHS Wisley, making us a natural stop for anyone exploring the area on foot or by bike. Come to us mud-splattered and hungry — we’ve seen it all.
With on-site parking and good links to the A3, we’re easy to reach from Guildford, Cobham, Woking, and beyond.
