There's been a pub on this spot in Ripley for more than 200 years, and today it's a roomy, easy-going place: a bar with fireplaces, a restaurant where the carvery is served on Sundays, two spaces you can have to yourselves, and a garden that runs down the side and the back of the building.

Here's a walk through it all, so you know where you'd like to sit before you turn off the Portsmouth Road.

The bar has fireplaces to sit beside, a rotating line-up of cask ales alongside the lagers we always keep on, and Silent Pool Gin among the spirits. We're open from 9am, so it works for brunch as well as an evening pint.

The bar on the left of the building started life as stabling, and in the 1920s and 30s the pub was a stopping-off point for passing lorries. The restaurant is where the main menu is served, changing through the year to make the most of seasonal ingredients, and brunch runs from 9am, daily.

Dogs are welcome in the bar, with water bowls and treats free of charge, and Canine Menu chews to buy if your dog has earned one.

Two indoor spaces can be booked for your own group. The Home Room seats 14, which suits a family birthday, a christening lunch or a small work meeting.

Add the Lounge to a Home Room booking and the space grows: 35 seated or 60 standing, with a private bar area of its own. Dogs are welcome in both.

There are five event menus: the Afternoon Buffet, the Party Menu, the Fork Buffet, the Set Menu and the Pizza Feast Menu. Tell the team your numbers and they'll talk you through them.

The garden wraps around the side and rear of the pub, right next to the car park, so it's easy with a pushchair or a lead in hand.

A large tent covers a good part of it, seating 100 or holding 150 standing, and there's a dedicated outdoor bar too. In the summer months the Pizza Shack opens up and stone-baked pizzas come straight out into the garden.

Altogether there's outdoor seating for 175, including bench tables beside the enclosed play area.

Three dining huts sit in the garden, and they have names: Lola, Nemo and Wanda. Each one is fully enclosed and heated, with its own lighting and plug sockets, and seats up to seven guests.

All three can be booked, which makes them a good spot for birthdays, small celebrations and anyone who likes eating outside across the seasons. Open-air booths sit in between them for smaller groups.

Dogs are welcome on the floors of the huts, and in the garden around them.

Our carvery runs every Sunday from midday to 5pm, with last orders at 4.45pm. A chef carves to order at the carvery unit: Roast Sirloin of Beef, Roast Turkey, Beef Brisket and Roast Loin of Pork, plus our nut-free Chestnut Roast for anyone eating vegetarian or vegan. Help yourself to the trimmings, while drinks, starters and puddings come to your table. The main menu is served all day on Sundays too.

Our quiz runs on the third Monday of the month, and our charity quiz nights raise money for Kicks Count. We have live music from time to time, and the pop-up outdoor TV comes out into the garden for big matches.

Children are welcome all day, every day. There's a children's menu for under 12s and a children's brunch menu, plus highchairs, colouring sheets and wikki stix, and the play area outside.

Access into the pub is step-free, the doorways take a wheelchair, and there's an accessible toilet with baby changing inside. Table service is available if you'd rather stay in your seat, and the Wi-Fi is free.

We're on the Portsmouth Road in Ripley, GU23 6EZ, with parking on site next to the garden. The Grove Heath Road bus stop is about two minutes' walk away on the 462, 463 and 715 routes, and Clandon station is around six minutes by car, with Woking around 20.

Ripley Green is about a 20 minute walk away, and Wisley and Hatchlands Park are both nearby, so we make an easy stop on a day out.
